K is for vitamin K!


Not the best known of vitamins this one but vitamin K is needed for blood clotting and is therefore essential for wound healing. There's also emerging evidence that it may have a role in bone health.


Vitamin K can be found in green leafy vegetables, vegetable oils and cereal grains.


Newborn babies are recommended to have a vitamin K injection at birth in the UK as they are at higher risk of deficiency. People with conditions that may affect absorption such as Crohn's Disease or Coeliac Disease can also be at higher risk of deficiency and people taking some anti blood-clotting drugs need to be careful not to suddenly increase or decrease the amount of vitamin K in their diet.

For the majority of us though a balanced and varied diet will give us all the Vitamin K we need. So get some kale in your life! 🥗
