C is for chilli


Chilli peppers are a small, hot variety of capsicum. They come in a variety of forms and from ancho to zia pueblo there's one to suit all tastes.

Chilli's are rich in vitamins C and B6 but because they are eaten in such small amounts their nutritional contribution to our diet isn't significant.

That said, chilli peppers are also rich in other antioxidant carotenoids that are linked with health benefits. The most researched is capsaicin which is the substance responsible for their heat. Capsaicin has been shown to potentially help with weight loss by increasing fat burning and moderating appetite. It also has pain relieving properties and may even help with pain caused by heartburn!! ♥🔥 That said they're not for everyone. Some people don't enjoy their burning sensation and chilli can cause stomach pain and diarrhoea for some, so IBS sufferers beware! I'm a chipotle and scotch bonnet girl myself.....
